Leelanau Wildlife Artists

Ruth Conklin Gallery features the wood carving sculptures of Al Rollings and Dianne Wakefield, two renowned Leelanau County wildlife artists.

Both of these artists have extremely limited production for their heirloom sculptures. Visit the gallery to discover one-of-a-kind carvings currently available.

Al Rollings creates carved images of birds from beach driftwood he finds in the Leelanau Peninsula. The shape of the driftwood determines the selection of species for the sculpture. Al’s background as a veterinarian assures anatomical accuracy.

Dianne Wakefield follows traditional methods of decoy carving for the birds she creates from cedar. She is one of a few accomplished women carvers in the United States.
